Gabayanos prepare for erya

By: Jayson Estores

Last September 11, 2015, Ateneo Gabay once again held its annual PrepErya, a project which aims to give the organization’s members an overview of the Erya Program. The event also taught Gabayanos the skills they would need to effectively contribute to the program’s efforts in advocating education.

The three erya arms—namely the tutoring arm, the modules arm, and the data analysis arm—were divided at the start of the program and were subsequently given a general idea on the structure and systems of the Erya Program. Each arm then listened to inspirational talks related to their respective roles in the Erya Program. Karis Corpuz, a teacher fellow in Teach for the Philippines (TFP), a public elementary school educator, and former Education Operations head of Ateneo Gabay, gave an awareness talk to the tutoring arm in an effort to give them a sneak peak of what it’s like to be a teacher. Kevin de Guia, another TFP teacher fellow and a past president of Gabay, gave his empowerment talk to the English and Math modules arm. Meanwhile, data analysis arm heads Jasmin Fernandez and Alawi Sularte encouraged their members through a moving speech.

After the talks, the arms proceeded with their respective skills training, in which the specifics of each group’s tasks were discussed. The participants were informed of what they will be doing before and during the erya insertions. Finally, the event concluded with meaningful syntheses from the erya heads, who encouraged their members to be actively and enthusiastically participate in the Erya Program.

PrepErya is a project under the Education Operations Committee.
