Gabayanos meet, compete in Gabay Week; event closes to a “Full House”

Ateneo Gabay welcomed its new members through the casino-themed Gabay Week, which was held last September 1 – 4 at the SEC B Foyer. This week-long event gave its members—old and new alike—the opportunity to get to know each other and the organization’s history, culture, and tradition, through an inter-committee competition that involved team-building and other recreational activities.

Gabay Week was a combination of Tambay Week and HAGiLaP (History of Ateneo Gabay in Lecture and Practice); the former was an event which encouraged members to drop by a lounge to interact with fellow Gabayanos through different activities, while the latter was an inter-committee competition that aimed to acquaint the members with Gabay’s history.

In this year’s Gabay Week,  members were able to play video games through a PS3 console and relax by watching several films. Gabayanos also got to know each other better through the signature sheet given upon registration, as well as through diverse activities ranging from typical card games, such as bridge and Monopoly Deal, to less common ones like Yu-Gi-Oh! or Cards against Humanity. Such activities—especially the card and board games—involved playing against members from different committees and betting points that affected the scores of the playing members’ respective committees. The event also saw various team-building activities that allowed the members to represent their respective committees and collaborate for different tasks.

Gabay Week came to a close in Gabay Week Culminating Night: Full House, where members of each committee teamed up one last time to emerge victorious in a quiz-bee about the organization. The said game was a spinoff of the popular Filipino game show Celebrity Bluff, but was played in such a manner that all committees would be answering the same questions simultaneously. Through betting all of their points, the Spiritual Formation (SF) Committee won the jackpot prize: a 500-peso snack out package. Meanwhile, the Education Operations Committee came in second; the Social Adjustment Committee, third; the Academics Committee, fourth; and the Education Formation Committee, last.

Gabay Week is a project of the Social Adjustment Committee and the Office of the Internals Vice President.
