Gabay holds PEP Talk anew

By: Lance Gamboa

Parents of several students from Holy Spirit Elementary School (HSES) received an overview of the Erya Program last September 16 as Education Operations Head Cecille Espinosa and tutoring monitors Jesha Gregorio and Jayson Estores delivered the PEP Talk.

The PEP Talk or the Preparation for the Erya Program Talk is an annual orientation that seeks to introduce the Erya Program to the parents and inform them of what to expect for the coming school year. This is the second time Gabay is holding the talk for this year as the organization’s tutoring arm already oriented the parents of its other area—the Industrial Valley Elementary School—last month.

Holy Spirit Elementary School is Gabay’s newest partner in its mission to inculcate the value of education in public elementary school students. The erya kids of HSES were selected through a diagnostic examination from the beneficiaries of the Ateneo Center for Educational Development, another of Gabay’s partner organizations which administers a feeding program to the school’s malnourished students.

The PEP Talk saw the attendance of the parents of some thirty erya kids. Led by Espinosa, the talk started at four in the afternoon and briefed the parents regarding the Erya Program’s history, the requirements they and their children have to fulfill as participants, and the benefits their children would reap from actively engaging in the program.

Estores then shared his experiences as a public school student whose life was changed because of the education opportunities he received. He encouraged the parents to support their children’s participation in the Erya Program because doing so is a potential way of opening more doors for the kids.

The PEP Talk ended with an open forum led by Gregorio, who answered the parents’ questions and

clarified some points regarding the Erya Program.

The PEP Talk is a project of the Education Operations Committee.
